People in Morro Bay may notice a helicopter hovering around the smoke stacks at the former Morro Bay Power Plant this week.

PG&E says it is working to replace two Diablo Canyon Power Plant repeater antennas that are part of the emergency warning siren system.

The antennas are located on top of the middle stack.

During the work, PG&E employees will climb the stack and work on platforms located at different levels. The helicopter is being used to transport pieces of the antennas to and from the stack.

PG&E says the project could take up to a week to complete.

The utility company says the work is necessary to ensure the reliability of the siren system.

The Morro Bay Fire Department says it is on standby in case of any emergency related to the work.

The power plant, located along the Embarcadero near Morro Rock, has three 450-foot chimney stacks. Dynegy shut down the power plant in 2014.
