After nearly a year, the Pismo Beach Plaza Project is complete.

The City confirms to KSBY that the pier and plaza both re-opened Friday.

While the opening of the long-awaited projects comes as Labor Day weekend gets underway, City officials say they are not encouraging out-of-town visitors to come to Pismo Beach and ask everyone who does come out to practice social distancing and wear face coverings.

Work on the plaza project got underway last fall.

It includes illuminated seven-foot-tall letters spelling out Pismo Beach, new parking, street improvements and other new additions to the pier in an effort to modernize and beautify the coastal tourist destination.

A trio of airstreams on the pier will offer different experiences to visitors.

The City has said the goal of the $6 million Pier Plaza project is to make the area more enticing to visitors while maintaining the historic area's classic feel.
