Police identify officer involved in weekend shooting of suspect in Santa Maria

The Santa Maria Police Department says the suspect shot by an officer in Santa Maria Sunday remains hospitalized for a "non-life-threatening" injury.

Police are not releasing the suspect's name at this time, citing the ongoing investigation into the incident by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

The officer has been identified as Ethan Brown, a 2.5-year veteran of the department.

The incident started shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday when police say they received 911 calls reporting a man waving a gun in front of people at Boomers on the 2200 block of North Preisker.

The first officer to respond located a man with a gun near Broadway and Preisker, according to police, who say the officer shot the suspect.

No other information is being released at this time.
