Pismo Beach Police responded to reports of a missing person around 2 a.m. Monday near Ocean View Ave on the beach.
Around the same time, officers said they got reports of a body that washed up onto the beach.
CAL FIRE SLO responded to the area and pronounced the person dead on scene.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office coroner was called out to perform an autopsy and results are pending.
Police said nothing suspicious in nature was initially noted.
