UPDATE (1:15 p.m.) - When officers arrived on scene they say a female juvenile victim told Santa Maria police that a man had attempted to assault her.

Police have identified that man as 40-year-old Hugo Garcia Ramirez of Santa Maria.

According to authorities, Ramirez used a firearm to make threats against the girl as he attempted to assault her.

Santa Maria police say the girl was able to escape through the back of the house uninjured and ran to a neighbor's house.

In a statement, police said they thought Ramirez was still inside the house, but after entering and not finding him, police now believe he escaped before law enforcement arrived.

Officials say Ramirez is wanted for several felonies and is considered "armed and dangerous".

The Santa Maria Police Department has issued a felony warrant for his arrest.

If you have any information as to his whereabouts, you are urged to contact the police department at (805) 928-3781, ext. 2277.
