A woman who was shot Tuesday night in Santa Maria is said to be in stable condition, according to Santa Maria Police Department.
The shooting happened at around 10 p.m. in the area of West Main St. and Russell Ave.
Bullet holes are visible at several homes in the neighborhood. Police say one bullet entered a woman's home and struck her in the torso.
Lt. Paul Van Meel with the Santa Maria Police Department says she was an innocent victim and was not related to the shooting in any way.
"There is a possibility it is gang related. We can't confirm that yet, it is just something we are having to look into," Van Meel said.
No arrests have been made but police are investigating whether people at a nearby party could have been involved.
"I feel pretty certain based on the number of people that were at that party that there are people that know what happened and we are asking them to call us," Van Meel said.
One woman who lives in the area says she heard several gun shots around 10 p.m. and looked outside to find a strong police presence outside her home.
"At around midnight, the police knocked on our door and told us that one of the bullets had struck my husband's car," she said.
Police continue to investigate and are asking people with any information to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-3781 or leave an anonymous tip on the department's website.
