UPDATE: Missing Grover Beach couple found safe and returned to family

UPDATE: (7:00 p.m.) - 72-year-old Clara Ruth Vega and 78-year-old Manuel Vega of Grover Beach have been found safe after they were reported missing Sunday morning, according to police.

Grover Beach Police said the couple was found safe and got medical attention as a precaution. They have been reunited with family.

Authorities are not yet releasing where they were found.

Detectives said multiple people called them after spotting the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office assisted with the search.

ORIGINAL STORY: (12:30 p.m.) -The Grover Beach Police Department is asking the community to help search for a couple reported missing Sunday.

According to a news release sent to KSBY, family members reported 72-year-old Clara Ruth Vega and 78-year-old Manuel (Manny) Vega of Grover Beach went missing while out for a day drive on Saturday.

Police say the couple drove their 2004 Chevrolet Corvette with California license number 6KYV938.

Family members say they last spoke with the couple via telephone at about 2 a.m. Sunday and the couple said they were lost near Hanford, CA. The family says they lost telephone contact with the couple and reported them missing to the Grover Beach Police Department.

Officials say Mr. and Mrs. Vega suffer from medical conditions which concern family members that the couple "may be in distress."

Family members of the couple describe Clara as a white woman standing at 5'4" and weighing about 140 lbs with gray hair and hazel eyes. They say Manuel is a white man standing at 5'4" and weighing 140 lbs with gray hair and brown eyes.

Grover Beach police conducted a cell phone locate and determined the couple's phone was last used in the area of Highway 99 in McFarland, CA at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers have since lost the cell phone signal, said the police department.

Agencies in McFarland, Kern County and the California Highway Patrol checked the area and were not able to find the couple, police said.
