Police in Santa Maria are asking for help identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run that badly injured a pedestrian over the weekend.

Investigators say the pedestrian was struck Saturday around 6:20 p.m. while crossing Blosser Road north of the Cook Street intersection.

The vehicle then reportedly took off, heading eastbound onto Boone Street, according to video surveillance and witness statements.

The pedestrian survived, but police say their injuries are major.

“This suspect vehicle was described by the witness as a dark color, older model, small ‘rounded’ looking sedan,” police said in a new release.

Pieces of the vehicle broken off during impact were found at the scene and police say it likely has damage to the front bumper area and a broken front light.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or this case is asked to call Santa Maria Traffic Department investigator Officer Marques at (805) 928-3781 x1333.
