Santa Maria police are working to crack down on drivers not obeying the law.
During a two-hour traffic enforcement operation Tuesday afternoon on East Main Street, police say more than 50 enforcement stops were made.
Police say the focus of the operation is not just to enforce the law but also to educate drivers.
Common things police are reminding drivers about include stopping at red lights, staying off cell phones unless you have a hands-free device and slowing down.
Last week, 51 vehicles were reportedly stopped during another operation in the city.
Today (10/15/19) from noon to 2 PM, SMPD Officers conducted a small traffic operation focusing on enforcement and education on east Main St. Over 50 enforcement stops were conducted. Please drive safe, stop at red lights, stay off of your cell phone, and slow down. pic.twitter.com/bUojIyVQMY
