Protesters gathered again in downtown San Luis Obispo on Monday for a rally and march.
Organizers said the "nonviolent direct action and march" is a call to San Luis Obispo County to divert funds away from law enforcement and toward mental health and community non-profits.
The event was scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. and last approximately two hours.
It comes as San Luis Obispo County is holding budget hearings. The county is expecting a budget deficit of up to $56 million as a result of COVID-19. As a result, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office is being asked to make about $2 million in cuts.
The San Luis Obispo Police Department says it has reached out to the organizers of Monday's march to plan for a safe event. Police warned there would be traffic delays as protesters marched through the downtown area.
After making a loop through downtown, protesters returned to the street in front of the county government building, where they paused for eight minutes and 46 seconds of silence in honor of George Floyd, the man who died when a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes.
