A large crowd gathered in front of the San Luis Obispo County Courthouse on Thursday for a demonstration in support of District Attorney Dan Dow and local law enforcement.

Organizers said they wanted to show Dow that they stand with him and trust his judgment.

Thursday's demonstration followed a press conference and rally at the same location on Tuesday calling on Dow to reject the recommended charges against Black Lives Matter protest organizer Tianna Arata.

Police say Arata is responsible for leading a protest march on July 21 that blocked Highway 101. They say the march also resulted in acts of vandalism at the hands of protesters.

The police department is requesting that the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office file charges against Arata for false imprisonment, conspiracy, inciting a riot, engaging in an unlawful assembly, and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

Thursday's protest started at around 5:30 p.m. and was scheduled to continue until 7 p.m.
