The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department prepares to re-open the public fitness facilities at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center.
The fitness facilities are receiving a bit of a remodel as staff work to provide a more spacious workout space ensuring the center is complying with health and safety protocols.
The center is located at 600 South McClelland Street and is set to open on Monday, Nov. 2.
Only 10 people are allowed at the gym. In order to use the facility community members need to go to thecity's website and reserve a spot. Reservations cost $5 a person for one hour use.
"It's been a quiet eight months and so we are looking forward to getting people in," said City of Santa Maria Recreation Services Manager, Dennis Smitherman. "We are taking a lot of safety precautions, were going to be sanitizing the machines on a regular basis, we have social distancing guidelines and rules, and staff to help keep people safe while they're here."
Guests will enter from the back door of the gym where they will be checked for COVID symptons. The facility is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for adults and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for teens.
