On Monday night, Representative Salud Carbajal and California Secretary of State Alex Padilla hosted a town hall meeting for residents of California's 24th Congressional District to discuss the 2020 Census.

Held at Santa Maria High School, the discussion revolved around the importance of this year's census.

Rep. Carbajal referred to the meeting as a "workshop" where community members could learn about what participating in a census does for their community.

"Funds are allocated to communities throughout the country based on the size of populations and demographics that exist," said Rep. Carbajal. "So in order for our region, the 24th Congressional District, to receive our fair share of funding--for roads, for schools, for fire and police, for hospitals--we need to make sure that everybody is counted [in the 2020 Census]."

People can expect to begin seeing 2020 Census invitations in the mail in mid-March.
