Community members in Lompoc ran for a chance to win turkey prizes and pumpkin pies.

The Turkey Trot Three-mile Fun Run and Kids Turkey Dash took place Sunday morning at the River Park Fitness Trail at Highway 246 and Sweeney Rd. in Lompoc.

This year included the one-mile Kids Turkey Dash for the first time. In prior years, children ages 5-12 would run alongside adults.

Top overall female and male children and adults were awarded a turkey. Second and third place overall winners scored a pie.

"I just think it improves the quality of life in a city and, especially here in Lompoc, it gives the children something to do so they stay busy and stay out of trouble," said Chad Dawson, the city of Lompoc Recreation Supervisor.

Nearly 40 competitors came out to the Turkey Trot which Dawson said is a higher number than previous years.

The next run Lompoc residents can look forward to is scheduled for 8 a.m on New Years Day at River Bend Park in Lompoc.
