The Harold J. Miossi Charitable Trust is giving $1 million to the San Luis Coastal Education Foundation to help launch the iINNOVATE Initiative.

The initiative is described as a multi-year program to increase access to project-based learning at the ten elementary schools in the San Luis Coastal Unified School District.

The money will help fund innovation labs at each school site so students in kindergarten through 5th grade will have equal access to hands-on learning tools.

In addition, teachers have created a themed monthly project box called "My Lab" that contains all of the supplies needed for students to complete four projects per month while they're at home.

In December, the Harold J. Miossi Charitable Trust donated another $100,000 to launch the development of project-based lesson plans for the iINNOVATE Initiative.

The Foundation says teams of teachers have been working on those plans over the past year.
