A San Luis Obispo man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he threatened his girlfriend, officers, and neighbors during a domestic violence incident Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a home on Homestead Place just after noon after a woman reported her boyfriend, 39-year-old Omar Gutierrez, threatened to harm her. Police say Gutierrez also had access to several firearms and made threats toward responding officers and nearby residents.

Officers set up a perimeter, evacuated neighbors, and called in crisis negotiators. After about 30 minutes, Gutierrez surrendered peacefully.

Police later recovered a handgun from the home. Gutierrez was taken to a hospital to be treated for a medical condition and is expected to be booked on charges including criminal threats and domestic violence.
