A new road at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport has a new name meant to honor the region's history.
The announcement was made Tuesday after the airport received more than 200 submissions from people in the airline industry, such as baggage handlers, ticket agents, and even pilots.
The street name is now Aviadores Way, which is Spanish for "Aviators."
The road connects ACI Jet's new headquarters to the airport property, and the selected name was submitted by Alex Leisch, one of the lead maintenance technicians atACI Jet.
According to airport officials, using "Aviators" in Spanish was a nod to the region's history.
"We're just excited to have an address that's going to tie into the airport and make it easier for people in the community, our clients, to find us, and it's just nice to be able to add a little something to the airport," said Andrew Robillard, ACI Jet's Vice President of Flight-Based Operations and Facilities.
The complete street address is expected to be published when ACI Jet moves into its headquarters next year.
