Santa Barbara Police arrested a man for assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday evening.

61-year-old Jamal Bseiso was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on felony charges after the 40-year-old male victim claimed Bseiso struck him repeatedly with a metal object.

Officers responded to the area of 500 East Yanonali Street at about 5:15 p.m. The victim was transported to Cottage Hospital with head injuries and significant injuries to his face.

The victim claimed to be acquainted with Bseiso, who he said was angry the victim was using Bseiso's property. The victim and other witnesses said an argument between the two men became physical before Bseiso grabbed a metal object and began swinging it at the victim, striking him multiple times.

Witnesses then called 9-1-1 and said they intervened as Bseiso fled.

Officers at an unrelated call later Wednesday night observed Bseiso and arrested him after the victim positively identified him through photograph.

Police say Bseiso attempted to run upon arrest but was stopped by the presence of additional officers.
