A prescribed burn of about 80 acres of land will be conducted Wednesday until 6 p.m. at the Righetti Ranch located south of Orcutt between Highway 135 and Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the Air Pollution Control District (APCD) will be carrying out this fire to improve rangeland and reduce the risk of wildfires. The agencies say it will occur when meteorological conditions are “highly favorable to direct smoke away from population centers.”
APCD says it has reviewed conditions to minimize smoke impacts in Santa Barbara County.The fire will occur on private land to prevent costly impacts to the air quality of surrounding communities.
The prescribed fire is not expected to affect any agricultural or residential area. The burn will be a follow-up to a 300-acre controlled fire that occurred at the ranch in Nov. 2018.
