Santa Barbara County deputies search for person accused of assault with deadly weapon in Goleta

UPDATE (4:55 p.m.) — Deputies are investigating an assault with a deadly weapon that happened at 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to a press release, sheriff's deputies received reports of a fight in progress near the area of Hollister and Kellogg. When law enforcement arrived, they found an adult man with serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospitals while a helicopter and K9 units searched the area for the suspect.

A male suspect fled the scene before deputies got there, according to officials.

Over the course of two hours searching, a preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and suspect did not know one another, according to officials.

UPDATE (1:19 p.m.) — Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies reopened Hollister Avenue from Kinman Avenue to Dearborn Place in Goleta shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday.

The public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said Kellogg Avenue north of Hollister Avenue remains closed.

ORIGINAL STORY (11:48 a.m.) — Deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office are searching for a person Saturday morning accused of assault with a deadly weapon in Goleta.

According to the public information officer for the sheriff's office, authorities have closed Hollister Avenue from Kinman Avenue to Dearborn Place, including the side streets.

Deputies are asking community members to avoid those areas.
