The Santa Barbara County Fire Department and other local fire agencies are declaring May 3 as this year's high fire season.

Fire officials say during this time all burn permits issued for residential burning and hazard reduction will be suspended.

The SBCFD will also be increasing its resources to respond to reports of vegetation fires.

Fire officials are asking residents to be extra vigilant because of the lack of rain this year.
