Firefighters with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department rescued a horse Sunday morning.

Fire officials responded to reports of a horse in distress on Vieja Drive in the Goleta Valley at around 6:50 a.m.

When first responders arrived, they say they found a full-grown horse that had fallen into a water trough and got stuck at some point overnight.

Fire officials say they were able to move the trough and get the horse out. As of 8:30 a.m. the horse remains on scene and is being evaluated by a veterinarian.

The condition of the horse is unknown at this time.
