UPDATE: Body found at Gaviota State Park was 'apparent suicide,' officials say

UPDATE (1:03 p.m.) — The public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said in a tweet Sunday afternoon that the body that was found earlier at Gaviota State Park is "an apparent suicide."

At 10:26 a.m., sheriff's deputies and other officials responded to reports of the body.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's department said the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities said the person's identity is not yet available for release.

UPDATE (12:20 p.m.) — An official with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department told KSBY that the reports of a body found at Gaviota State Park Sunday morning were of "a man having a medical emergency."

The identity of the person and how they were found are not yet known.

ORIGINAL STORY (11:08 a.m.) — Authorities are responding to reports of a body that was found at Gaviota State Park on Sunday morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County Fire Department and California State Parks rangers are responding to the incident.
