Deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office arrested a Santa Barbara man accused of vehicle theft and burglary early Sunday morning.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, deputies responded to the 400 block of Arroyo Road before 4 a.m. to assist the Santa Barbara Police Department with a stolen vehicle recovery.

The vehicle, a black 2015 GMC truck, was taken from the 100 block of Bath Street Saturday evening and was tracked to the Arroyo Road home with the use of OnStar, said the sheriff's office.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the same address on Arroyo Road earlier that evening when they investigated a burglary in which items were stolen from the vacant home, including a garage door remote.

Deputies, police officers and CHP officers surrounded the home and called for the man to surrender using the PA system. After several attempts to call the suspect out of the home, deputies and a K9 unit entered the home and searched for the suspect, said the sheriff's office.

K9 Odin was deployed to search the upstairs area of the home, found the suspect and apprehended him, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials say the suspect, 41-year-old Benny Velasquez of Santa Barbara, sustained minor injuries from the K9 and received medical attention on scene and at the hospital prior to being booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Sheriff's deputies say Velasquez is being booked by the Sheriff's Office for burglary, vehicle theft by the Santa Barbara Police Department and for two outstanding warrants: one for vehicle theft and a no-bail warrant for a violation of probation.
