A Santa Barbara father is raising funds for his son's school by running more than 30 miles.

Ultra-runner Daniel Torres ran 50 kilometers through Santa Barbara County Sunday morning to show his appreciation for the faculty and staff at Notre Dame School in Santa Barbara.

He ran the entire Obern Trail Bike Path in Goleta starting at 6:45 a.m for the 'Saints on the Run' event.

Torres created a GoFundMe page to collect donations from community members.

As of Sunday evening, he has raised more than $1,000.

He said this fundraiser is a token of his appreciation for the school and teachers working hard during the pandemic.

"I thought it would be a good way to give back, especially with COVID-19, cleaning supplies, supplies for the teachers, again if they want to use it for scholarships so kids can get a better education then so be it," Torres said.

This is not Torres's first 50k.

He ran his first one at the Paramount Ranch Race in Agoura Hills in 2019 where he placed second and ran the third-fastest time on the course.

He says he hopes to run a 100k someday.
