The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office announced one of its K9s died after a medical emergency Wednesday.

Two-year-old Chop was rushed to the hospital immediately but didn't survive.

Chop was partnered with Sheriff's Deputy Shane Moore.

Sheriff's officials say Chop was an excellent K9, who has been patrolling with Deputy Moore for the past 11 months. They say the connection between a handler and its K9 is strong after spending an immense amount of time training together for life threatening situations.

Chop was brought to the sheriff's office through funding from the Sheriff's Benevolent Posse's Project Deputy Dog program. He was the second dog purchased for the sheriff's office.
