A Santa Barbara man is facing charges in connection with an incident that resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Ventura.
It happened on August 12.
Police say it started when a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 101 but the driver exited onto city streets. They say the driver turned onto a dead-end street, made a U-turn and sped toward the officer, which caused the officer to open fire at the vehicle.
The officer was not hurt.
The suspect drove away and the car was found a couple of hours later about two miles away, according to officers.
Police say witnesses at the scene and evidence found in the vehicle helped them identify Curt Carpenter, 52, as the suspect. He was reportedly on Post Release Offender Supervision in Santa Barbara County.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies arrested Carpenter in Montecito and booked him into jail on suspicion of assault on a police officer and violating his post release offender status.
