Santa Barbara police on the lookout for road violations Saturday

The Santa Barbara Police Department will be on the lookout Saturday for bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians who make road violations.

Throughout the bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operation, authorities will look for violations including drivers speeding or making illegal turns, bicyclists riding on the wrong side of the road, pedestrians who cross the street illegally as well as other violations that put roadway users at risk.

Officials say the safety operation is part of the City of Santa Barbara's Vision Zero strategy, which aims to eliminate all serious and fatal collisions from city streets.

In a press release, officials said the Santa Barbara Police Department investigated nearly 160 injury collisions involving bicyclists and pedestrians in the year 2018.

A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funded the program, according to the press release.
