Firefighters are putting out fires at the Santa Maria Airport this week as part of annual training required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aircraft fires are simulated so crews can practice their response and prepare for a real-life scenario.
"It really does provide that low visibility, that ability to pull hand lines into tight places, you know, and really get into what they are going to encounter on a real aircraft," explained Santa Maria Fire Battalion Chief Tony Clayburg.
Firefighters from Santa Maria Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire, CAL FIRE, and the San Jose Fire Department took part in Tuesday's training.
