After hearing from concerned residents, the Santa Maria City Council has asked the Recreation and Parks Department to halt its plans to convert two softball fields into multi-use fields.

The dirt infields at Minami and Simas fields were to be replaced with grass, but parents and players protested, saying there aren't enough baseball or softball fields in the city as it is.

The city council says it will also reach out to the school districts to ask that they open their fields for community use.
