The City of Santa Maria Utilities Department will host a public workshop on Aug. 28 to discuss a possible increase for water and sewer rates in the city.

Santa Maria residents are invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 110 East Cook St.

The city said the proposed water and sewer increase is necessary to account for increased costs of water and sewer utility in the city. The last time the city increased these rates was in July 2017.

People who live in Santa Maria will get notices discussing the proposed change until mid-August. Residents can also check the notice on the city’s website.

The Santa Maria City Council will hold a hearing to consider the proposed increases on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
