Santa Maria couple James and Phyllis Sabo were reunited for the first time in seven months Wednesday at Marian Regional Medical Center.

James, a former volunteer at Marian Regional Medical Center, has been in long-term care at the center since 2018.

His wife, Phyllis, a volunteer at Mission Hope Cancer Center, visited him often before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic limited the couple to interacting on Facetime with the help of nurses at Marian Regional Medical Center's Extended Care Center.

Phyllis was finally able to see her husband of 60 years in person Wednesday for the first time since March 13.

The two held hands while wearing gloves and Phyllis now has weekly appointments to see James.

“Our visit was short but I was so happy to see him [and] was glad he was doing so well," Phyllis said.
