Santa Maria police search for shooting suspect

UPDATE: As of 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, police have not provided any additional details or said whether a suspect is in custody.


Santa Maria police say they are searching for a suspect who was involved in a shooting Tuesday night.

Police say they responded to reports of a shooting near the 1100 block of West Main Street and Russel Avenue at around 10 p.m.

Officers say when they arrived they found a victim who suffered from a non life threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to the hospital.

Police say an active search is underway near the intersection of West Main Street and Russel Avenue. They are asking people to stay clear of the area.

As of 10:30 p.m., police do not have a description of the suspect.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and they do not believe it to be a gang related incident at this time.
