The Santa Maria Public Library and its four branch libraries in Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, and Orcutt will be closed on Wednesday, August 28 for staff training.

The libraries will reopen as usual on Thursday, August 29.

The city says the training will provide library staff with information on current strategies and practices that will help them better serve people who use the library.

During the closure, the library's website will remain available for access to online resources, item renewals, and account information. Exterior book return drop boxes will also be available, and library items may be renewed over the phone by calling 1-800-354-9660.

The Santa Maria Public Library is also updating its hours for passport applications.

Appointments are available on Mondays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

To make an appointment, call 805-925-0994, ext. 8563.

The Santa Maria Public Library is located at 421 S. McClelland St.
