The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is asking the community for donations to support the construction of pickleball courts.

In a news release, the department said it is working with The People for Leisure and Youth, Inc. (PLAY) and the Santa Maria Pickleball Club to build six regulation pickleball courts at the Hagerman Sports Complex, located at 3300 Skyway Drive.

City officials said the City of Santa Maria is funding the concrete slab and the painting of the courts. Crews will need an additional $30,000 to fund the interior and exterior fencing and permanent nets for the courts.

The Santa Maria Pickleball Club is donating $5,000 to the project and is asking community members to consider making a tax-deductible donation to make the project a reality, according to the release. Donations of $250 or more will be recognized on a contributions board to be located near the courts.

To make a donation online, community members can visit this website. People can also donate by sending a check payable to PLAY, Inc. and mailing it to 615 South McClelland Street, Santa Maria, CA 93454.

For questions about the project, community members can contact the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department at (805) 925-0951, extension 2260.
