The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department will be hosting a Valentine's Pet Wellness and Adoption Day at the Elwin Mussell Senior Center in Santa Maria on Thursday.

Organizers are hoping to help community members find their "Fur-Ever" Valentine as they will have several dogs for on-site adoption.

C.A.R.E. 4 Paws is sponsoring the event and will be offering affordable, walk-in pet services for low-income and senior pet owners in their mobile veterinary clinic. There will also be low-cost health and wellness services for dogs and cats including wellness exams, vaccines, flea treatment, ear cleaning, nail trimming, wound care, spay/neuter surgeries, plus dog licenses through Project Pet Safe.

Appointments may be made in advance by calling (805) 968-2273. Appointments begin at 10:00 a.m. and may extend as late as 3:00 p.m., depending on the demand. Santa Barbara County Animal Services staff will also be in attendance, with adoptable dogs.

Organizers say donations are being accepted. You could bring old towels, dog and cat treats, and new pet toys.

If you are interested in adopting cats, you can contact the agency directly to arrange a visit at their shelter location.

The senior center is located at 510 East Park Avenue in Santa Maria. The event begins Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and lasts through 2:00 p.m.
