The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum will be closed for the month of March due to the risk of coronavirus.
In a press release, museum staff members said the closure is the safest way to keep guests, employees and volunteers healthy.
“Although this has not been an easy decision for us, we realize that it is important to do what we can to maintain the health and safety of our visitors, staff, and community,” stated Nancy Gastelum, Executive Director of the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum. “We will continue to monitor the situation and follow any guidelines set forth by health officials.”
Staff members said in the meantime they will maintain exhibits and facilities to prepare for a reopening in the future.
Staff has also begun reaching out to visitors who have scheduled field trips and birthday parties to inform them of their options, including postponing their event or receiving a refund.
