Children in Santa Maria rang in the New Year Tuesday with a Noon Year's Eve celebration.

The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum hosted the event for children who would otherwise miss out on New Year's Eve fun due to bedtime.

The museum's Noon Year's Eve event has been happening for more than 10 years but this is the first year for a ball drop and disco party.

"We really want to inspire creativity and imagination and a lot of fun for children and their families, so the Noon Year's Eve celebration is a nice way for them to celebrate the New Year without having to stay up until midnight," said Ilsa Toepfer, the education director at the discovery museum.

On Jan. 26, the museum is hosting another free event for children and families to learn about art and artists.
