After a fire destroyed the Sergio's Furniture and Mattress store on Broadway in downtown Santa Maria last January, the store's owner says he's closer to reopening.
Sergio's is now expected to reopen in December.
Shaw's Restaurant, which also had major damage, is expected to open in December or early January.
Both businesses will have all new electrical wiring, sprinklers, and heating and air conditioning systems.
"We have a sprinkler system throughout the whole entire building, everything is up to code, electrical units are all reinforced and secured. It's not gonna be in the open like the previous building was. We're very, very happy how everything is turning out," said Sergio Diaz, furniture store owner.
Sergio's has been operating out of a space at the Santa Maria Town Center Mall since the fire.
Fire officials are investigating the fire as a case of arson but say they have no new leads at this time.
