A convicted sex offender was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years-to-life in state prison under California's Three Strikes Law.
Joshua Steven Jackson, 38, pleaded no contest in August to two counts of possession of more than 600 images of child pornography.
In 2002, Jackson was convicted in San Luis Obispo County of three counts of serious and violent sexual abuse of children under the age of 14, and in 2012, he was convicted of possession of child pornography.
According to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors tried twice to commit Jackson to a state hospital as a sexually violent predator, but in both 2015 and 2016, the juries in those trials were unable to make a unanimous decision on whether Jackson met that criteria and he was released back into the community in 2016.
The DA's Office says it received information in March 2018 that Jackson was in possession of child pornography and made contact with him. Investigators reportedly determined that Jackson had downloaded approximately 990 images of child pornography.
