Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash near Highway 46 East Sunday night that left a driver with major injuries near Shandon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It happened at about 10:40 p.m. on Bitterwater Road south of Highway 46 East.
Officers say the driver of a Dodge Ram, identified as Curtis Lee Twissleman, 40, of Shandon, was heading southbound on Bitterwater Road traveling about 40 mpH when his truck drifted onto the shoulder of the road and down a steep embankment.
The truck rolled before landing on its roof in a dry creek bed, according to CHP.
The Jaws of Life were reportedly used to get Twissleman out of the truck. He reportedly suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital and placed under arrest.
