The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office has identified the deputies involved in the shooting of a dog outside an Atascadero business last week as Marc Carreiro and Jacob Henry.

The two were responding to what the sheriff's office says appeared to be a burglary in progress at Fashion Dry Cleaners on the 7800 block of El Camino Real the night of Monday, June 15.

Two dogs ran from the business, according to the sheriff's office, which says "Deputy Carreiro feared the dog was about to attack and discharged his weapon, striking one of the animals."

The 1.5-year-old dog, Roxy, was shot three times in the face, chest, and abdomen, but survived, according to her owner, Junior Gonzales.

Gonzales and his family run the dry cleaning business and also live on site with their two dogs.

He says his dogs are not aggressive and are around customers every day.

The sheriff's office says neither deputy was placed on administrative leave, adding it is still investigating the incident and it will be followed up with an investigation by the Sheriff's Office Professional Standards Unit.
