(12:26 p.m.) - A shooting investigation prompted the evacuation of people from a Santa Barbara motel Wednesday morning.

Santa Barbara police say the investigation began when a man arrived at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police say evidence linked him to the Sunset Motel on the 3500 block of State Street.

Officers arrived on scene and evacuated “several bystanders and people staying there.” Around six other people were detained and a “room of interest” pinpointed, according to police.

A Santa Barbara SWAT team arrived on scene around 10 a.m. and police say about 15 minutes later, the hotel room was deemed safe and the area was deemed a crime scene.

Police tell KSBY they have “reason to believe” the man was shot in or around the motel.

Evidence was being collected from the street next to the motel and also inside the motel room.

Investigators were waiting on a search warrant to conduct additional searches.

A Santa Barbara resident staying at the motel told KSBY News she heard gunshots just before 5 a.m. and received a call around 7 a.m. telling her to evacuate.

As of 11:15 a.m., no arrests had been made.
