The City of San Luis Obispo is allowing three cannabis retailers to set up brick and mortar shops within city limits.

Two of the cannabis retailers received permits after a several month vetting process, but the third business, Elemental Wellness, was denied after failing a background check.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department couldn't say what disqualified the retailer, but a new business called SLOCal Roots is working to take its place. They're in the process of a background check with SLOPD.

Natural Healing Center and Megan's Organic Market SLO were the first two business to complete background checks, but there are restrictions on where these businesses can be located.

Megan's Organic Market will be a recreational dispensary located at 280 S. Higuera Street. Owner Megan Souza says permitting and construction are underway and they are planning for an opening date in February or March.

KSBY News also reached out to Coastal Delivery SLO for comment but has not yet received a response.
