Some local libraries are seeing a spike in digital usage.

Every year, branches in San Luis Obispo County usually see a 20 percent increase in digital usage but the San Luis Obispo branch reportedly saw a 20 percent increase in December 2020 alone of eBook, music, TV and movie downloads, which accounted for 20 percent of overall checkouts.

San Luis Obispo’s library was the second busiest branch in the county, behind Arroyo Grande, officials say.

With reduced hours and services available at local libraries during the pandemic, some staff has been reassigned, helping with county vaccination clinics, contact tracing and more.

Sidewalk services are currently available at libraries in San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande, Atascadero and Morro Bay.
