The San Luis Obispo Planning Commissioner, Jim Harrison, is resigning from his position, according to San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Lynn Compton.

Compton accepted Harrison’s resignation Friday and will begin the process of selecting a new planning commissioner.

Harrison will also not be honored with Nipomo's Citizen of the Year award.

This comes after he posted, and later removed, some politically-charged posts from his Facebook page.

At a meeting on Thursday, the board members with the South County Chamber of Commerce were considering revoking Jim Harrison's award.

According to a chamber board member, before a decision could be made, Harrison sent a letter to the group declining the award.

After receiving the letter, the board unanimously accepted Harrison's resignation of the award.

The Chamber of Commerce also decided not to name anyone else as Nipomo’s Citizen of the Year.

The Facebook posts were made last Friday. One of them was a meme depicting U.S. House Majority Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a Nazi uniform, the other an image that depicts a donkey with a swastika.
