A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of domestic violence.

Police say an officer was called to a local hospital Thursday afternoon for a report that a victim of domestic violence was being treated there. The woman reportedly suffered a non-life threatening knife wound and other injuries.

Police say the victim told officers that the suspect, Ryan Patrick O'Hara, 39, was likely at home and possibly armed with a gun.

She told officers that O'Hara made statements earlier in the day about using his gun to avoid going back to prison if confronted by police. O'Hara reportedly has prior felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Police responded to the couple's home in the 1600 block of Toro Street and detained O'Hara when he left the residence and got into his vehicle.

Police say they searched the home and found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.

O'Hara was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, false imprisonment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

As of Friday afternoon, he remained in custody with bail set at $50,000.
