San Luis Obispo Police and the city's Public Works Department will be conducting a bike light "pop-up" checkpoint on Wednesday, November 6.

With the recent time change, the city wants to remind cyclists that being seen is more difficult during evening commutes, and bike lights are essential for seeing the road as well as being seen by motorists.

A front bike light and a rear reflector are required at night by law. Not using them can result in a fine of nearly $200.

Rear bike lights and reflective clothing are also strongly recommended.
