The California Strategic Growth Council has awarded the City of San Luis Obispo a $3 million grant that will go toward the acquisition of a 1,000-acre conservation easement for the Miossi Brothers La Cuesta Ranch.

The ranch is located just northwest of the city, at the headwaters of San Luis Obispo Creek in the Cuesta Canyon area.

In 2018, the city spent $1.3 million to purchase a 266-acre portion of the property.

The city says the easement will ensure the ranch remains used for agriculture and open space, while protecting important natural resources and wildlife habitat.
