The San Luis Obispo Police Department is investigating a shooting downtown over the weekend.

It happened at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, near the intersection of Nipomo and Higuera streets.

Police say a man, later identified as 22-year-old Chase Calvin of Bakersfield, forced his way into Tonita's Mexican Grill and challenged another man to a fight. According to witnesses, the man did not know Calvin and tried to leave, but Calvin followed him outside.

Police say another man who appeared to know Calvin got involved, removed a gun from his waistband and fired a shot toward the victim.

The two men reportedly then fled the area, and witnesses reported hearing two more gun shots.

Police say no one was injured.

Officers reportedly searched the area and located Calvin in the 500 block of Higuera St. He was arrested on suspicion of vandalism and possession of brass knuckles.

The second suspect was not arrested. He is described as approximately 20-years-old and was reportedly wearing a long-sleeved flannel shirt, white undershirt, and tan pants.

Police are also hoping to identify the victim in this case. He is described as being in his 20s and was wearing a tan beanie, red and black Levi's sweatshirt, tan pants, and light-colored shoes.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Detective Lozano at (805) 594-8011.
